When the curtain rises at the Perry Players Community Theatre this May, audiences will be swept away by Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat—a retelling of the biblical story of Joseph, his famous coat of many colors, and a journey packed with betrayal, forgiveness, and redemption. With colorful costumes, catchy songs, and a story that balances humor with heart, this show has something for everyone to enjoy.

This energetic musical, originally penned by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber in 1968, began as a humble 15-minute school concert. It was so well-received that it blossomed into the Broadway hit we know today—earning six Tony nominations after its debut in 1982, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. Though beloved across the globe, it hasn't taken the stage in Middle Georgia for many years—until now.
From May 1–11, the Perry Players will bring Joseph to life over two weekends at their 170-seat theatre. Performances run Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 PM and Sunday at 2:30 PM. Guests can enjoy complimentary snacks and drinks during intermission— even wine! Guests can also select their seats when purchasing tickets.
The performances are just part of what makes the Perry Players so incredible. For more than four decades, they've been an integral thread in the cultural fabric of our community. What started as a small group staging shows in school gyms and recital halls has grown into a fully established nonprofit theatre thanks to the generosity of local patrons, businesses, and countless volunteers. Since 1992, they've had a home of their own at 909 Main Street—and they continue to fill it with stories that connect and inspire.
Each year, the Perry Players present five family-friendly productions. They believe in investing in the next generation, offering summer workshops and youth performances as a core part of their programming. These experiences give kids a supportive place to grow their skills and build confidence on stage and beyond. This summer, their Youth Theatre Campers, ages 7–18, will stage Peter Pan Jr.(June 12–14) and The Little Mermaid Jr. (June 26–28). Tickets for both performances will be available soon. The mainstage production of Hairspray will take over the theatre from July 17 to August 2.
The impact of Perry Players goes beyond the stage. Their space also hosts book signings, concerts, and community dinner theatre events. More importantly, they're a hub for local talent—whether you're on stage, behind the scenes, or in the audience.
As Board of Governors member Jim Lay puts it, "The Perry Players’ motto is, ‘We don't require experience; we provide it.’ Whether you're a seasoned performer or simply curious about theatre, there's a place for you here."
If you've ever dreamed of giving back or getting involved, there are plenty of ways to do so. Volunteers are the heartbeat of Perry Players—help is needed with everything from costumes to stage management to lighting and sound. You can explore all the volunteer opportunities and roles at perryplayers.org/volunteer. Sponsorships and tax-deductible donations also help keep the magic alive and can be directed to support youth workshops, productions, or other needs.

Board member Kim Lochner perfectly captures the theatre's spirit: "The Perry Players is a family-friendly theatre that feels like home. It's a great place for actors and singers to perfect their art, and we're passionate about making sure younger generations have access to that same experience."
So, whether you're attending your first show or your fiftieth, consider this your invitation to experience the energy, creativity, and community that defines the Perry Players.
